WFC completed works in the Medieval & Renaissance Galleries at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London in 2009. Working with MUMA Designers, WFC were invited to tender the glass display covers for the above project. The project fitted well with our in-house design, metalwork and joinery capabilities and we were delighted to have been successful in being awarded the works package.
Due to the careful collaboration with MUMA during the design process, we were delighted but not surprised when the prototype was installed and approved first time.
Following this, we tendered for further works including seats, desks and mirrors. Due to the incorporation of the interactive screens and audio equipment, it was essential that the designs allowed for easy use by museum visitors - as well as reliable performance and practical maintenance.
Throughout all the packages, careful design and manufacturing co-ordination was required to ensure that the interface of metal, timber and glass all worked together practically and aesthetically.
The project was a pleasure and a privilege to be involved with, and challenged our design, manufacturing and project management processes. We were very proud that we were able to rise to the challenge.
We are delighted that this project has been shortlisted for the NAS Awards 2010 in May.
